Geopolitical risks among compliance concerns for metals, mining companies

Companies working in the metals and mining sectors face increased compliance checks due to efforts to clamp down on abuses in the supply chain, while “volatile” geopolitical changes make sourcing and transporting raw materials more difficult and expensive. 

Experts also warn that the extractive industries probably face more scrutiny in terms of environmental and sustainability reporting, which means compliance teams working in these sectors may have their work cut out for them.

There are two key compliance issues impacting these sectors around disclosures and geopolitics, said Avadh Avadh Nagaralawala, control systems engineer, mining technology contributor at Caterpillar, a manufacturer of construction and mining equipment.
