A paper manufacturer will pay $1.5 million for historically failing to install effective air pollution controls, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced.
Domtar A.W. LLC, a subsidiary of Domtar Corporation, violated the amended 1990 Clean Air Act (CAA) by releasing total reduced sulfur, chlorinated compounds and other pollutants into the air at its Ashdown, Ark., mill in impermissible amounts, the DOJ alleged in a complaint. The complaint was filed in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas on July 24 by the DOJ on behalf of the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Arkansas environmental agencies.
