Stephen Cohen, former Associate Director in the Securities and Exchange Commission Division of Enforcement, has joined law firm Sidley Austin. He will be a member of Sidley’s securities and derivatives enforcement and regulatory practice.

RedCrow, a new equity crowdfunding platform, has appointed Chris Laia as general counsel and chief compliance officer. Laia will report to RedCrow CEO and Founder Brian Smith.

Tembec, a Canada-based forest products company, has named Pierre Gignac to its board of directors. Gignac will assume the seat of Michel Dumas who remains Tembec’s executive vice president, finance and chief financial officer.

Pharmaceutical company Astellas announced the promotion of Linda Friedman as executive vice president, general counsel, with responsibility for the company’s legal operations worldwide, effective April 1.

Toys “R” Us, a toy and baby products retail company, has hired Cornell Boggs as executive vice president and general counsel, effective Feb. 15. He will report directly to Chairman and CEO Dave Brandon.

BillingTree, a payment technology and services provider, has appointed Barton Bright as general counsel and chief compliance officer.

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation, a post-trade market infrastructure for the global financial services industry, has appointed Ann Shuman as general counsel, effective Feb. 1. She assumes the role from Larry Thompson, who is stepping down to serve full-time as vice chairman of DTCC.

Andrew Ceresney, who served from April 2013 to December 2016 as the Director of Enforcement at the Securities and Exchange Commission, will return to the law firm Debevoise as co-chair of the litigation department, where he will practice primarily in the White Collar & Regulatory Defense Group.
