Lucille Maugé arrived at Clark Atlanta University (CAU) not a moment too late. No sooner than she’d moved into her office in December 2006, she went to work addressing a series of requirements mandated by the Department of Energy and the Department of Justice.
Maugé, who is now CFO and vice president for finance and business services at CAU, helped build a compliance function that was among the first in a university setting. She and her team integrated the best of corporate and institutional practices to create a program that continues to serve the University. Because there were no programs in place at the time, Maugé had to summon her wealth of corporate and industry experience to create both internal audit and compliance functions simultaneously. One of her most strategic tactics was to hire one of the top compliance experts in the nation, Robert Clark.
