FTC orders AI firms to disclose safeguards for children and teens

AI chatbots are becoming more commonly used among people, especially for children and teens. It’s for that reason that the U.S. Federal Trade Commission is ordering seven AI companies to provide information on how they’re monitoring the possible negative impact the technology has on minors.

The FTC sent orders on Thursday to companies operating consumer-facing AI-powered chatbots that use generative AI to create human-like communication and intricate relationships with users. This inquiry from the agency wants to know what steps the companies have taken to limit potential negative impact on children and teens and what risks associated with their bots should parents be made aware of.
