Danske Bank has enhanced its compliance team with the addition of Simon Kingsbury as head of surveillance & investigation, Chief Compliance Officer Philippe Vollot announced on LinkedIn.

Kingsbury’s appointment is effective July 15. He joins Danske from HSBC, where he most recently served as regional head of financial crime compliance for Europe.

The hiring comes amid a substantial money laundering scandal for the bank at its Estonian branch. Danske is currently under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice, the Danish and Estonian Financial Services authorities, the Danish State Prosecutor for Serious Economic and International Crime (SØIK) and the Estonian Office of the Prosecutor General (the Estonian Financial Intelligence Unit), among other probes.

In addition to bringing in Kingsbury, Danske has hired James Townsend to the surveillance & investigation team as head of transaction monitoring (effective August 19) and Ricky Crump as head of trade & E-comms surveillance (effective July 15), Vollot announced.

“These appointments reinforce Danske Bank’s commitment to implement an effective Compliance and Financial Crime framework across the Bank,” said Vollot.
