Welcome news for some smaller companies: A lot more of them will be able to take advantage of streamlined disclosure and reporting requirements, thanks to a recent proposal by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

If adopted, the proposed rule amendmentsโ€”part of a series of six measures relating to smaller issuers announced by the SEC in Mayโ€”have โ€œthe potential to save money for a wide range of companies as they comply with reduced disclosure burdens,โ€ says Scott Porter, special counsel in the San Francisco office of Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe.
