Moody’s Germany has been hit with a €2.1 million ($2.45 million)fine by the European Union’s (EU) financial markets regulator for four breaches of credit rating agency regulations.
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) discovered in December 2024 that Moody’s had misreported key information to the regulator, although it had published correct data on its own website. ESMA said these discrepancies, which included missing ratings and rating actions, non-withdrawn ratings and errors in information supplied to the regulator, were “repeated and systemic” and occurred over several years between 2019 and 2022.
