Trump’s firing of FTC commissioner violated federal law, court finds

ftc legal

The firing of a Democrat commissioner of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission by President Donald Trump was illegal, according to a federal judge’s ruling last week.

U.S. District Judge Loren AliKhan ruled that the Trump administration’s removal of Rebecca Kelly Slaughter from the FTC didn’t comply with the agency’s removal protections under federal law, as reported by Reuters. Slaughter was reinstated to her position as commissioner, but the administration has already filed an appeal, meaning the case will likely head to the Supreme Court.
