The Council of Institutional Investors (CII) this week elected a new board of directors and named Michael McCauley, senior officer of investment programs and governance at the Florida State Board of Administration, as chair of the board.

McCauley, who had been co-chair, succeeds Jay Chaudhuri, general counsel and senior advisor to the state treasurer of North Carolina. In keeping with CII’s bylaws, McCauley was elected chair by CII’s public pension fund members.

CII is a nonprofit, nonpartisan association of pension funds and endowments and a leading voice for effective corporate governance and strong shareowner rights. CII members collectively have more than $3 trillion in assets under management.

The three co-chairs of CII's board are Dave Donlin, assistant general counsel, Target; Meredith Miller, chief corporate governance officer, UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust; and Theresa Whitmarsh, executive director, Washington State Investment Board.

New members of the CII board for 2015-16 are Vonda Brunsting, director, Capital Stewardship Program, Service Employees International Union; TerriJo Saarela, director of corporate governance, State of Wisconsin Investment Board; and Aeisha Mastagni, investment officer, California State Teachers’ Retirement System.

Other board members include:

Carol Nolan Drake, chief external affairs officer, Ohio Public Employees Retirement System;

Trevor Gunderson, vice president and deputy general counsel, General Mills;

Gianna McCarthy, director of corporate governance, New York State Common Retirement Fund;

Jennifer O’Dell, assistant director, LIUNA Staff and Affiliates Pension Fund;

Anne Simpson, senior portfolio officer, California Public Employees’ Retirement System; and

Gregory Smith, executive director, Colorado Public Employees Retirement System.
