For the third year in a row, the Securities and Exchange Commission will reduce the filing fees public companies and other issuers pay to register their securities. In fiscal year 2016 fees will be set at $100.70 per million dollars, a drop from the current filing fee for registration statements of $116.20 per million, a more that 13 percent decrease. The new rate goes into effect on Oct. 1, 2014.

The SEC collects fees from issuers on the registration of securities,  proxy solicitations and statements in corporate control transactions. By law it is required to adjust these fees, in consultation with the Congressional Budget Office and the Office of Management and Budget, so that they are equal to annual statutory target amounts.

The target amount for 2016, on which fees are calculated, is $550 million.
