UMass appoints general counsel

The general counsel is based at the UMass Office of the President in Boston and leads the university’s legal department in addition to working with the campus chancellors and the UMass board of trustees.

Lowy will also serve as strategic adviser for law school education and adjunct professor of law at UMass School of Law. He became the first UMass alumnus to serve on the state’s highest court in 2016. He served as a district court and superior court judge before joining the supreme judicial court.
