Multinational consumer goods giant Unilever appointed Maria Varsellona as chief legal officer and group secretary. She will succeed Ritva Sotamaa, who will retire at the end of March 2022.

Varsellona was most recently general counsel and company secretary for global technology company ABB. Before joining ABB in November 2019, she was chief legal officer of Nokia and president of Nokia Technologies. She also held senior legal positions at Tetra Laval Group, Switzerland; GE in Italy: and Hertz Europe.

Sotamaa joined Unilever in 2013. In 2018, she was appointed group secretary in addition to her chief legal officer position.

Unilever also announced Reginaldo Ecclissato will succeed Marc Engel as chief supply chain officer. Engel will depart in April 2022 after 30 years with the company.
