Hamilton Lane, an alternative investment management firm, has appointed Frederick Shaw as chief compliance officer, effective April 1. The company also named Lydia Gavalis as general counsel. She assumes the general counsel role from Robert Cleveland, who retired after for more than 16 years with the firm.

Gavalis, who previously served as deputy general counsel, will assume responsibility for all legal affairs globally. As part of this transition, Shaw assumes the chief compliance officer role, report to Gavalis.  

Shaw previously served as director of compliance since joining Hamilton Lane in 2011. Prior to Hamilton Lane, he was chief compliance officer of Natsource, where he managed the firm’s global compliance program. Earlier in his career, he served in various compliance and supervisory positions at Bear Stearns Asset Management; JP Morgan Private Bank; UBS; and Smith Barney.
