The Walt Disney Company has appointed Horacio Gutierrez as senior executive vice president, general counsel and secretary. His appointment is effective Feb. 1, 2022.

Gutierrez will join Disney from Spotify, where he serves as head of global affairs and chief legal officer. He will succeed longtime Disney veteran Alan Braverman, who, as announced in July, is retiring after a 28-year career with the company, including the last two decades as its general counsel.

In his new role, Gutierrez will serve as the chief legal officer of the company, overseeing its team of attorneys responsible for all aspects of Disney’s global legal affairs, and act as a strategic advisor to executive leadership and the board of directors. “His areas of accountability will include litigation; compliance; transactional law; securities law; regulatory matters; privacy protection; global ethics; and patent, copyright, and trademark issues, among others,” Disney stated.

He will report directly to Chief Executive Officer Bob Chapek.
